GBI investigates shooting in Rabun County, victim airlifted

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office has called in the GBI to investigate a shooting that resulted in one person being airlifted for treatment. The shooting occurred during the early morning hours of Monday, October 21 at a residence off of Bent Laurel Ridge Drive in Clayton.

According to a press release from Rabun County Sheriff Mark Gerrells posted on social media Tuesday morning, one person was injured in the shooting and was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment. The assailant was taken into custody without incident.

“This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” Gerrells said in the press release. He added, “Rabun County Investigators are working in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to ensure a thorough investigation.”
