Habersham County’s Board of Education will consider approval of multiple items during its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at 144 Holcomb St. in Clarkesville.

Among those items is the installation of Contegix – a proposed $189,800 remote security alert system that could notify authorities of a potential threat or emergency and lockdown school campuses within seconds.

Annual fees for maintenance, wireless backup and updates across all 14 schools would be just over $106,000.

The system, credited with saving lives during the Sept. 4 tragedy at Apalachee, was also approved by White County’s School System earlier this month.

New turf

On Monday, the school board will also consider turf replacement across the 90,175 square-foot field at Raider stadium.

The artificial matrix-helix turf replaced the field’s natural grass turf in 2016, according to school officials, and has since deteriorated.

Replacement is expected to cost around $621,400. This includes a $40,000 discounted cost since the field’s condition has declined before expiration of a 10-year warranty. If the item is approved, a capital projects account would cover the cost.

School officials said the shock absorbent material of the turf makes for safer play on the gridiron for Habersham County football teams and other sports.

Other business

Officials also will present a series of Peach State Federal Credit Union awards, Heart Safe awards, review monthly school system finances and other reports at Monday’s regular meeting.
