Law enforcement officials have cleared the scene of a manhunt in Baldwin after taking the man they were searching for into custody.

Police arrested Thomas Hilland Thursday evening following an hours-long manhunt off Willingham Avenue, Highway 441, and Davis Drive.

According to the Baldwin Police Department the 33-year-old Hilland was wanted on outstanding charges. Police say he fled on foot in the area where they conducted the search.

Although police did not have any reason to consider him a threat, they encouraged residents to “stay in their homes and lock the doors” while the manhunt was underway.

“Thanks to the help of residents in the area, the numerous law enforcement agencies that responded to assist, and Habersham County Sheriff’s Office K-9, Zane, Hilland has been successfully appended,” the Baldwin Police Department reported on social media.

The department expressed gratitude “to all those in and around Baldwin who assisted by sharing the information sent out.”

Police did not say what the outstanding warrants on Hilland were for, but arrest records show he has a history of run-ins with the law, including for probation violation and burglary.
