The Habersham County Coroner’s Office and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after an individual was found deceased near Alto Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release from Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore.

Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire said that the deceased individual was found by a family member just after 3 p.m. at a residence on Mt. Zion Road Connector.

“While foul play is not suspected at this time, the body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation State Crime Lab in Decatur for evaluation,” McEntire said. “No further details will be released at this time pending the outcome of that exam and notification of family members.”

McEntire said that the thoughts and prayers of the coroner’s office are with the family and friends during this difficult time.

Law enforcement officers responded to the residence shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and cordoned off the scene.

Moore said at the time that the sheriff’s office had asked the GBI to assist them with the investigation. That request was canceled before state investigators arrived.
