Blairsville man arrested after ‘domestic-related double shooting’ in Towns County

A Blairsville man has been arrested in connection with a domestic-related double shooting that occurred last Friday, the Towns County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday, Oct. 14.

Caleb Avery Hughes, 24, of Blairsville, was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault stemming from an Oct. 11 incident at the Sand Bar & Grille on Highway 76.

Police say Hughes was armed with a gun when he allegedly entered a vehicle occupied by three passengers. A struggle ensued before a male passenger was shot in the leg, according to police. Hughes also was said to have been shot in the arm.

Hughes’ “estranged girlfriend” and another female were in the vehicle but were not injured, according to authorities.

Both males were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for their injuries and released on Sunday.

The investigation, led by GBI and the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, is still ongoing.
