Gainesville man charged with possession, distribution of child sex abuse material

A 35-year-old Gainesville man was taken to the Hall County Jail after he was arrested on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor this week.

Toby Deran Wehunt was taken into custody Wednesday, October 9, on six felony charges, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Wehunt was charged with three counts of possession of child sex abuse material (CSAM) and three counts of distribution of CSAM.

“There is no evidence any of the children depicted in the three images in Wehunt’s possession are local victims,” says Hall County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Derreck Booth.

According to Booth, investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit received several cyber tips from the social media platform Discord, alerting them to suspicious activity on an account traced to Wehunt. Investigators served a search warrant at Wehunt’s residence on Boy Scout Camp Road and seized several electronic devices.

Booth says the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are possible in the case.
