The University of Georgia will have a memorial stair climb in Sanford Stadium to honor the lost lives during 9/11.
On Sept. 11, a 9/11 survivor will give a speech in Sanford Stadium at 5:30 a.m. Following the speech Athens-Clarke County first responders and UGA ROTC will run a section of stairs in Sanford Stadium.
While participants are running in the stadium. The American flag will be flown in the middle the selected sections during the run.
Sept. 11, 2001, is the day when a terrorist group flew two planes into the World Trade Center in New York City, causing both towers to collapse. A third plane crashed into the Pentagon, headquarters of the U.S. military just outside the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. The fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after passengers took the plane back.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed.
