Habersham County’s public schools will be closed Monday, October 5, for students and staff due to widespread power and water outages caused by this weekend’s storm. School officials say road conditions also factored into their decision, as large trees and debris still litter some of the areas roadways.
In a robocall to parents Sunday night, Habersham County School Superintendent Matthew Cooper said that at least one school is under a boil water advisory and several of the schools remain without power. That, combined with the thousands of people whose homes are without electricity led to his decision.
Meanwhile, the Little School in Clarkesville will be open Monday. The school’s Marketing and Development Coordinator Shannon Carmack announced by email, “Students who are absent or tardy due to weather related power outages will be excused.”
