The Baldwin City Council has canceled its normally scheduled work session for Tuesday, August 6, in preparation for the National Night Out hosted by the Baldwin Police Department.
Last year was the first time the city held the national event. The event takes place in communities across the nation on the first Tuesday in August each year. It is an opportunity for law enforcement and residents to meet one another in an effort to build safer, stronger communities.
According to the National Night Out website, this nationwide event “enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.” The event officially began in August 1984.
Baldwin Police Chief Chris Jones says that numerous agencies have been invited to participate in the event Tuesday, including Habersham and Banks County Sheriff’s Offices, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, Georgia State Patrol, as well as several municipal police departments.
Free hamburgers and hot dogs will be served to those that attend the event.
The National Night Out will be held Tuesday, August 6, at 110 Airport Road across from Baldwin’s Farmers Market from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
