First responders had to use ropes to pull an injured hiker to safety at Dukes Creek Falls over the weekend.

Emergency personnel responded to the popular hiking trail north of Helen around 1:45 p.m. on Friday, July 26, after 911 callers alerted authorities.

“After arriving on scene, it was found that the injured individual had hiked off the trail when the injury occurred. Within minutes of searching, rescue teams were able to locate the individual,” says White County Public Information Officer Bryce Barrett.

Due to the nature of the injury and the terrain, first responders had to use ropes to reach the patient. They then extricated the individual from the trail.

White County EMS transported the hiker to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Habersham for treatment.

Multiple agencies, including White County Fire and EMS, White County Emergency Management, and the Helen Fire Department, assisted with the rescue.
