A two-vehicle crash early Thursday sent two people to area hospitals with serious and non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The crash happened around 6:56 a.m. on GA 17 near Lankford Road in Franklin County. The preliminary crash report says a Hyundai Elantra was traveling north on GA 17 when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Chevrolet Silverado head-on.

The wreck seriously injured the Elantra driver. Franklin County EMS transported 33-year-old Christian Ashley Hunter of Anderson, South Carolina, to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the Silverado is a U.S. Forest Service employee. 62-year-old Gregg Ledford Chapman was sent to AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say no impairment was suspected. They charged Hunter with failure to maintain lane.
