The Sautee Nacoochee Center has just announced a new music program for young folks in White County. JAM, Junior Appalachian Musicians, is an after-school program that offers small group instruction in traditional Appalachian stringed instruments such as guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and banjo.
The program is designed for students ages 9-17 who are eager to learn and explore the world of music. With instruments made available on loan and a sliding-scale tuition rate. A news release said JAM envisions a world in which all children can experience the joy of participating in traditional mountain music together.
Lessons will be taught by paid instructors and will take place on the SNC campus from 4 to 6 p.m. on Mondays beginning September 9. The twelve-week program runs until December 9. A small student-teacher ratio, usually 8:1 or less, allows for personalized instruction and meaningful interaction with each student.
Registration may be done online at snca.org or in person on Tuesday, August 27, between 4 and 7 p.m. in the SNC Community Hall.
