Virginia “Jenny” Atkinson Simpson Allen

Virginia “Jenny” Atkinson Simpson Allen, age 70, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

Mrs. Allen was born on December 16, 1953, in Jefferson County, Georgia, to the late John Willie Amerson and Roxie Jane Atkinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Enoch Guy Simpson; daughter, Lisa Simpson Griffith; son, Keith Guy Simpson; second husband, John Thomas Allen; sisters, Catherine Petrea, Mary Jane Simpson; brothers, Clarence “Peewee” Atkinson; Johnny “Bones” Atkinson; James Atkinson; and an infant sister, Peggy Lucille Atkinson.

Jenny dedicated 40 years of her life to caring for children, opening her home in Greene County and Habersham County to numerous kids whom she treated as her own. Throughout her career as a caregiver, she nurtured and raised many children, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. She was a faithful member of Camp Creek Baptist Church, where she attended until her health declined. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, a precious grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a wonderful aunt to her extended family. She was affectionately known as “Granny” to not only her grandchildren but to many of the children she cared for over the years.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Angie Simpson, of Cornelia; daughter-in-law, Cherry Simpson; of Baldwin; grandchildren, Magen Young and her husband, Mike; Cody Simpson and his wife, Jessica; Zeke Griffith; Matthew Luke Simpson and his wife, Katie; Asa Simpson and his wife, Lakin; Mia Simpson, Maizy Simpson, Ely Griffith, Marissa Simpson, Harley Anderson and her husband, Harold; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, Rhonda Evans, Lynn Taylor, Jennifer Pendell, Kellie Brasell; nephew, James Atkinson; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Camp Creek Baptist Church with Pastor James Lyons officiating.

Graveside Services will follow at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 25, 2024, in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point, Georgia, where she will be laid to rest beside her first husband, Enoch Guy Simpson.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel.
