Fiery Athens crash victim’s identity unknown

Authorities work to identify driver burned in early Monday accident

Police are still trying to determine the identity of a pickup truck driver who burned in a fiery crash in Athens early Monday, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

In a news release, Lt. Jody Thompson says police were called to the single-vehicle crash on Herman Street at Vine Street at around 2:53 a.m. on July 7. When officers arrived, the Chevrolet pickup truck was fully engulfed in flames.

“Due to the circumstances, the identity of the driver and vehicle is yet to be confirmed,” says ACCPD Lt. Jody Thompson.

This is the fourth fatal accident in Athens-Clarke County this year.
