The Baldwin Police Department has been awarded a grant to purchase four new life-saving devices for first responders. The city says the $7,980 grant comes from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and its local Firehouse Subs restaurants in Toccoa and Commerce.
The funds will be used to purchase four Physio Control Lifepak CR2 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). According to a news release from the city, the AEDs will help save lives because police officers are often the first emergency personnel to arrive at a scene and begin medical care while they wait for paramedics to arrive.
A city spokesperson says, “We hope the day never comes that they need to be used, but if it does, we will be incredibly thankful our officers are better equipped to help save someone’s life.”
