Nonprofit’s Store and Career Center Opens to Public Thursday
Cornelia – Goodwill of North Georgia is ready to share its unique shopping experience and its job training and employment services with Habersham County. The organization will open the doors to its Cornelia location this Thursday, September 24 at 9:00 am. The facility, located at 308 Habersham Hills Circle (Cornelia, Georgia 30531), is the 54th store and 11th career center for the nonprofit.
“We expect this new location to be a great addition to the community. Visitors can experience each portion of our business—donations, shopping and employment services—in one location,” says Goodwill’s Director of Public Relations Elaine Armstrong.
Like its other stores, the new site also serves as a donation location. Inside the store, job seekers will find a career center equipped with tools and staff to help them find employment. Computers, local job listings and other resources will be available free of charge to those looking for work. Goodwill also plans to hold training, like its forklift certification and production technician programs, at the Cornelia career center.
“We have been providing services to job seekers in Habersham County for years. Now we will have a physical presence here and the ability to expand those offerings. This location is going to allow us to serve more people and give donors and shoppers the opportunity to help put thousands of their neighbors to work by supporting their local Goodwill,” Armstrong adds.
Opening the new store also enabled the nonprofit to bring new jobs to the county by staffing its store with about 50 full-time hires.
Those who visit the store during the first four days of business (September 24 –27) will also have the opportunity to enter hourly drawings for Goodwill gift certificates. Goodwill uses the sale of donated goods to help fund its career centers and a myriad of other job training programs and employment services. This year, the nonprofit’s goal is to help 20,000 North Georgians find work.
