Rocky Mount, N.C. – The Piedmont College men’s golf team sits atop the leaderboard following round one of the Don Scalf Memorial Tournament hosted by North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, N.C. The Lions posted a 292 as a team, 4-over-par, in the opening round to lead the pack of four teams at the event posting an eight stroke lead over the host team, the Battling Bishops.
After shooting a 295 as a team in their first round of the Tom Kinder Memorial earlier this month, the Lions continue to show improvement after cutting three strokes off that total. The 292 is the team’s best round so far this season as they have proved to be consistent shooting above 300 just once all season.
JOSEPH MORRIS is leading the way for the Lions as he is in second overall after shooting a 69, 3-under-par, in round one. Morris is closely followed by SAM HILL who sits in third place shooting 1-under-par, 71. GARRETT ROWLAND is continuing an impressive start to his freshman campaign as he sits in fifth overall (75, 3-over-par) while AARON VANKEMPEN is tied for seventh (77, 5-over-par).
The Lions will continue action today with round two and results will be available on Golfstat.
