Despite the rain, more than 100 people gathered in the Ingles parking lot on Louise Street on Sunday morning, June 2, for a Eucharist processional. A church spokesperson said, “It is a testament to our love for Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He made on the Cross.”
The Iglesia Catolica de San Marcos (Saint Mark Catholic Church) organized the processional as a public statement of their belief in Jesus’ true presence in the Eucharist, a word for “thanksgiving.”
It is one of the practices by Christian churches found in the New Testament. Eucharist is also referred to as Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper.
One Iglesia Catolica de San Marcos participant expressed the event as “a Holy parade that brings Jesus’ love into the world.” Another described it as “Jesus paid the debt of our sins on the Cross that He didn’t owe because we couldn’t pay the debt ourselves.”
The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office escorted the processional as many vehicles pulled over out of respect.
Saint Mark Catholic Church is located at 5410 Highway 197 S. in Clarkesville, Georgia. The church offers English and Spanish services.
