Clarkesville Council to recognize Barrett, appoint new police chief

The Clarkesville City Council will recognize longtime Police Chief Brad Barrett during its regular meeting on Monday, May 6.

Barrett served the Clarkesville Police Department for 23 years. He announced his resignation on April 1. Barrett told the council he would stay until the city could appoint a new chief. His resignation will be final and official with the announcement of the city’s new top cop.

The council will announce their new police chief and detective immediately after recognizing Barrett.

Other business

The council will also recognize the water department for awards it has received from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

Clarkesville Main Street Director Colby Moore will update the council about summertime events in Clarkesville and final preparations for the Mountain Laurel Festival on Saturday, May 18.

The City Council will consider approving alcohol licenses for two businesses during the Monday meeting.

Oasis Bar LLC is seeking an alcohol license for malt beverages, wine, and distilled spirits to be consumed on the premises. The business will be located at 522 Monroe Street.

The second business, Cale Garrison Enterprises, LLC, is seeking a license for its new establishment, Grille 52. The business is requesting an alcohol license for malt beverages and wine for consumption on the premises. The restaurant will be located at 327-A Monroe Street.

The Clarkesville City Council will meet for the regular council meeting on Monday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at Clarkesville City Hall at 123 North Laurel Drive in Clarkesville.
