It’s back and happening every Wednesday in May – The Blue Sky Concert Series.
Main Street Gainesville Manager Nicole Parham explained, “The Downtown Square is Gainesville’s heartbeat. It has historically been the central point of gathering together as a community.”
Parham believes that live music is something that brings people together. After reintroducing the Live Music series in 2021, Main Street Gainesville decided to bring it back in 2024.
Lineup of artists
The Blue Sky Concert Series has a lineup of artists scheduled from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays: May 1, Andrew Lilly; May 8, Eduardo Cautiño; May 15, Rodney Appleby; May 22, Chad Bowmar; and May 29, Out Past 9.
“Grab your coworkers, book a lunch date with a friend, or just get out of the office for a bit and head downtown,” Parham said. “Grab a to-go lunch from your favorite restaurant or eat at a sidewalk café, shop at local boutiques, and enjoy live music on the Historic Downtown Square!”
Parham suggests bringing lawn chairs or picnic blankets. There are shaded park benches but they could be all occupied.
Many specials
Blue Sky specials will be available at several local restaurants throughout the month. Main Street hopes the series will bring people to eat in the square and shop before and after the concert. Downtown retailers and restaurants will have opportunities to win prizes from Main Street and the City of Gainesville. You will need to keep your receipt(s) from the retail shop or restaurant to show City staff at the Main Street tent to grab a fun giveaway. There will be updates about specials and where to enjoy them on @DowntownGainesvilleGA’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
“May is also Historic Preservation Month, so we’ll be celebrating on social media with a ‘name that location’ architecture/building clue game. We’ll announce the clue location and first-guess winners during these lunch events,” Parham added.
Free Parking
Parking is free at any one of the following downtown parking decks, all located within walking distance of the historic square: Main Street Parking Deck, 301 Main St.; Gainesville North Parking Deck, 100 Brenau Ave.; and Hall County Parking Facility, 225 Green St. For attendees traveling from the direction of Roosevelt Square, please be aware construction is ongoing in the area and pedestrians will be required to access the square through Kenyon Plaza, then Spring Street.
