Harrisonburg, VA – The Lions continued their hot start on the course as the Piedmont College men’s golf team took 3rd place in the Tom Kinder Memorial Tournament of 18 teams competing at the prestigious event. The finish is the best ever by PC at the event as an unprecedented five Lions earned All-Tournament honors, the first time in the history of the event that five players from the same institution have earned All-Tournament status in the Tom Kinder.
Leading the way for Piedmont was SAM HILL and AARON VANKEMPEN who tied for 9th along with Keegan Howver of Ferrum with a two-day total of 146 each. Hill was Mr. Consistent shooting a 73 on both days while Vankempen used a lights out 71 on day one, his best career round in college, to post the 2-over-par overall finish along with Hill.
Hill and Vankempen earned All-Tournament accolades along with three other Lions who all finished tied for 12th including veterans JOSEPH MORRIS and JAKE FORBES as well as newcomer GARRETT ROWLAND.
Morris shaved five strokes off his day one score for a 71 on day 2 to earn the finish while 71’s for Rowland and Forbes came on day one. Each shot a 76 on their other round to finsh 3-over for the tourney.
Piedmont is off to its best start in the program’s NCAA Era (since 2003) having won its own tournament to start the year before the 3rd place finish in the Tom Kinder.
