A driver was injured when their car plowed through a mailbox and fence before crashing headlong into a tree in Demorest. The Friday afternoon crash happened outside a Historic Highway 441 North residence near Church Sawmill Road.
First responders freed the driver from the wreckage. An ambulance transported them to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Demorest, according to Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore.
The wreck briefly blocked traffic on Hwy. 441 between Demorest and Clarkesville as crews worked to free the driver.
Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa investigated the wreck but will not release the report. The post’s new commander, SFC Roger Fuller, deferred all questions to the State Patrol’s public information office in Atlanta.
Now Habersham will update this story as new information is released.
