Not many 18-year-olds can say they own a business, but Anette Mier can. A 2023 Habersham Central graduate, Mier owns Don Fily’s Tacos located at 1405 Central Ave. in Demorest, GA.
It is the authentic Mexican food that keeps the customers coming back. Phillip, who has been eating at Don Fily’s Tacos for quite a while, came to Habersham from California. He grew up around the Mexican flavors and believes there is nothing like the food Anette prepares anywhere. “My mom is an incredible cook – Anette’s Mexican food compares to my mom’s,” Phillip said.
“I grew up learning to cook around my grandmother and mother,” Anette said.
Customer after customer filed in saying the same compliment, “There is nothing else like the food here!”
Anette is an entrepreneur. She has dreamed of owning her own business and has many ideas of what she will do as she continues to learn. As a teenager, Anette worked in various restaurants learning how the business operates. She knows what it takes to be successful, and Anette is all in to make her restaurant successful.
Anette worked for the original owner of Don Fily’s Tacos. When he offered her the opportunity to buy the restaurant, she took it. Anette said she had been saving her money for just such a moment.
Sometimes, because of her age, Anette doesn’t feel people take her seriously. “It’s just been something that I have dealt with already, but I don’t put my energy into it. If anything, it’s motivation to keep progressing. Everybody has room to succeed,” Anette added.
Her parents, Juan and Ana, are her backbone. “It’s such a great feeling to know that I’m not in this alone.” Anette’s eyes teared up talking about the love and support she has been given from her parents. She recognizes that not everyone gets support from their family as she has. Her family is a blessing to her.
The menu is filled with flavor and spices. Customers know their favorites and Anette is quick to remember what sauces her regulars enjoy. “My customers mean the world to me,” she explained. “I’ve met so many people and gained so many friends.”
And just as Anette puts all that she has into her restaurant, so does she her dreams.
“One day, I want to turn Don Fily’s Tacos into a large restaurant. I want to grow this business and have a place where families come and eat,” Anette talks about her plans.
It doesn’t stop there. Anette has big dreams. She has always wanted to own several businesses. Don Fily’s Tacos is only a start for her. “I’m learning all I can about managing, finances, and customer service.”
“I am thankful for the support of the community and grateful for the relationships I’ve developed with my regular customers. They bring such good energy into the store every day. And I feel very grateful to the man above for this opportunity,” Anette said with a smile.
Don Fily’s Tacos is opened Monday through Friday 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.
