The Baldwin City Council will hold a public hearing during their Tuesday work session for a zoning variance for Otter Construction. The construction company has requested that an office space in an attorney’s building be converted into an apartment.

The reasons given for the conversion was for economic and security purposes. Last year the property owner had a vehicle stolen from the premises. The office is located on Professional Park Drive and the area is made up of private offices for various businesses. Danny Otter explained to the council at last month’s meeting that having someone live there full time would help with security in the area.

The council approved the first reading of the zoning variance during last month’s meeting.

Also discussed last month was the animal control intergovernmental agreement with Habersham County. That IGA was not approved. However, for the work session, they will discuss animal control updates that they have received since that last meeting.

The city council will discuss four other items on their agenda. Up for discussion will be a landlord ordinance, utility encroachment, updating the city’s fee schedules, and liability insurance.

The Baldwin City Council work session will be held April 9 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Baldwin Police Department Training Room located behind Baldwin Police Department at 155 Willingham Avenue in Baldwin.
