Habersham E-911’s Smith named Georgia Communications Director of the Year

Habersham brings home four of the state's top awards

At Georgia’s Emergency Communications Conference in Athens, Habersham County E-911 brought home half of the eight awards given statewide last week.

At the top of the list, Director Lynn Smith was named the Communications Director of the Year. Smith was recognized for her accomplishments in encouraging, motivating, and supporting employees.

“I was very pleased and honored. We have a great team!” Smith said.

Employees from 911 centers around the state were nominated, and their nominations were forwarded to judges out of state.

Leadership in Service Award

Habersham County Radio Systems Administrator Tom Priddy received the Leadership in Service Award in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the agency.

The leadership award may be given to a radio technician, CAD manager, addressing / MSAG manager, or any other support position in which the individual has played a significant role in enhancing and improving the center’s operations.

Communications Team of the Year

Kenny Williams, Summer Anderson, Liberty Garrett, Peyton Myers, Nadia Newsome, and Tasha Salas were named Georgia’s Communications Team of the Year.

The team award recognizes two or more communications officers for their exemplary handling of a specific 9-1-1 emergency or situation that requires them to coordinate multiple public safety responses and emergency resources.

Georgia Peach Award

Caleb and Madison Garrett received the Georgia Peach Award. They are the children of Habersham County Emergency Services employee Joshua Garrett.

Caleb and Madison were recognized because they contacted 9-1-1 for help when their brother suffered a possible life-threatening situation.

“We are so proud of all these award recipients,” said Habersham County Manager Alicia Vaughn. “We are confident we have the best employees in the state, and these awards again demonstrate our team’s level of commitment to excellence for our citizens.”

Smith added, “I am very proud of Habersham County!”
