James Monroe “Red” Maney

James Monroe “Red” Maney, age 82, of Clarkesville, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 23, 2024, following an extended illness.

Mr. Maney was born on May 22, 1941 in Towns County, Georgia to the late R.R. Maney and Rosa Mae White Maney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Dorothy Yearwood Maney; his second wife, Shirley Babb Maney; brothers, Voice Maney, Clyde Maney, Milus Maney, Jewell Maney, AB Maney, Rad Maney, Bob Maney; sisters, Willie Dorsey, Irene Maney; and grandson, Daniel Bales.

James was of the Baptist Faith. He also actively contributed to the local community as a member of the Clarkesville Masonic Lodge #325, embodying the values of fellowship and service. Throughout his professional career, James exemplified hard work and dedication. He retired as the proud owner and operator of Mons Catering after over 40 years of unwavering service. Beyond his professional accomplishments, James will be remembered most fondly as a devoted father and beloved “papa.”

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Marty and Sandra Maney, of Austell; Michael and Pamela Maney, of Toccoa; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Donnie Maney, of Toccoa; step-son and spouse, Tony and Rose Tillman, of Austell; step-daughter, Charlene Chamblee, of Austell; step-son, Marcus Tilman, of Austell; brother, Richard Maney, of Cornelia; sister and brother-in-law, Winnie and JD Gabriels, of Clarkesville; grandchildren and spouses, Carey and Tracey Maney, Brandon Maney, Jeremy Maney; nine great-grandchildren; special nephew, Johnny Maney; and many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens with masonic rites preformed by the Clarkesville Masonic Lodge #325.

Members of the Clarkesville Masonic Lodge #325 will serve as pallbearers. The following gentlemen will serve as honorary pallbearers: Marty Maney, Mike Maney, and Carey Maney.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the funeral home.
