There are very few people who do not recall the day the towers fell. For this generation, it was a day in history unlike any other. From the ruins of the sacred sites where lives were lost emerged a nation changed forever. Hopefully, our country learned that tragic day how precious a single life is; how valuable a phone call can be; how meaningful words of goodbye are; and how important a foundation can be.
Life hurts. As simple of a sentence those two words are to type, the reality rings true for those who know. When I was a little girl, my dad used to say, “It’s all in the foundation.” Whenever a tragedy hit our family or a friend, he would remind us. At the time I didn’t really understand what he meant. Now that I am older and life has knocked me around a bit, I understand.
Psalms 62:2, “He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.”
The other day I was talking with someone. We have a mutual friend who has turned away from God. She commented about our friend, “He once was such a great Christian but after going through such hardship…” My spirit would not allow me to keep quiet and I quickly offered to her a correction. If our mutual friend had been a great Christian, he wouldn’t have turned from God. A Godly foundation may be shaken, but it never collapses. When we put our hope and trust in God, we have no reason to fear for He is our Mighty Warrior, our Healer, our Provider, our Strength, and our Deliverer. Nothing can separate us from Him – no illness, no foreclosure, no death, no war, no famine, no loss – nothing.
John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
9/11/01 did not come as a surprise to God. And even as we watched in horror; and even as we mourned; as we held tight to one another; as we prepared for war; as we wondered where God was, God never left our side.
Foundations that are built on Him will never fall. Today as you reflect on this time in our history, examine in Whom you put your trust. Realize where you are standing.
