Lowell “Kent” Sherman, age 81, of Clarkesville, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Born December 22, 1942, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he was the eldest son of the late George Russell Sherman and Ruby Arloene (Jagger) Sherman. Mr. Sherman received his Undergraduate Degree from the Indiana Institute of Technology and his Master’s Degree from Colorado State University. After graduation, he worked as a Civil Servant for the United States Navy, first in Corona, California, and then in San Diego, California. In the early 1980s, he became a Private Defense Contractor with various firms, ultimately working for Lockheed Martin in Orlando, Florida, until his retirement in 2016. Over nearly a 50-year professional career in electronic warfare, Kent was unequaled in his drive to aid the “warfighters” and support our national security. Kent was an avid sportsman and fan who enjoyed baseball, football, soccer, and NASCAR. He took joy in playing golf, baseball, and softball, coaching soccer for his children, and cheering his grandchildren in their activities. Mr. Sherman was a member of the Association of Old Crows. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kellie Paige Sherman.
A loving father and devoted husband, Kent’s survivors include his loving wife of 56 ½ years, Judy Helen (Jeppson) Sherman of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Greg Sherman and Katie (Hammer) Sherman of Fairfax, Virginia; grandchildren, Dean Sherman and Georgia Sherman; siblings; and large extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart, with Rev. John Umberhant officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour on March 23 at the funeral home.
