A burn pit fire got out of control, sparking a grass and woods fire in Baldwin that destroyed several acres and outbuildings, officials say.

The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 21, at Highway 105 and Spring Road, says Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols.

When firefighters arrived, they found three outbuildings, numerous old vehicles, and about two acres of grass and woods burning.

Banks County requested help from the Lee Arrendale Fire Department and Tates Creek Fire Station in Stephens County. The Georgia Forestry Service also responded and assisted with fire control.

It took firefighters more than two hours to bring the fire under control. All three buildings were a total loss, says Nichols.

No one was injured. Officials ruled the fire accidental.
