A wind-whipped fire Thursday afternoon in Cleveland heavily damaged an outbuilding.

Cleveland fire units were dispatched to 63 Angel Lane in Cleveland at 2:40 p.m. on Feb. 22, where land clearing crews were burning trees and a fire got out of control.

Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt said the wind played a big factor.

“The wind was picking up and it blew the fire in the area beside the shop and it caught the shop on fire. When we first got here, that was the first priority to get the shop knocked down and had one gentleman on the scene; I believe he was the dozer operator that did have some minor burns,” said Pruitt.

White County EMS personnel checked out the equipment operator and said he refused treatment or transport.

The owner of the building, Ryan Stewart,  said it was moving fast, and in no time, the building was ablaze.

White County Fire units were called to assist. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and keep it from spreading to a nearby house located on Head Street.
