Good Samaritan injured in Hart County accident

A good Samaritan was seriously injured Wednesday night while trying to help a pickup truck driver near Hartwell.

According to state troopers, a Chevy Avalanche traveling south on GA 8 attempted to turn onto Elizabeth Road and lost part of its load. A Toyota 4-Runner northbound on GA 8 struck Ray Burt of Hartwell, who had exited his vehicle and was standing in the roadway, helping the pickup truck driver clear the road.

Troopers with Georgia State Patrol Post 52 in Hartwell investigated the accident. They cited the Avalanche driver, Angela Dean, 59, of Anderson, for carrying an unsecured load.

No charges were taken on the driver of the Toyota 4-Runner, William Wilhite, 89, of Hart County.

The accident occurred around 8:22 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22. EMTs rushed the 70-year-old Burt to AnMed Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina, with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.
