Two new deputy registrars will handle the voter registration duties in Clarkesville now that the Habersham County Elections and Voter Registration Office is in its first week at its new, larger headquarters in Cornelia.

Habersham County Elections Supervisor Laurel Ellison said having the two new deputy registrars is about customer service.

Natiasha Brown, Habersham County Administration Building receptionist, will take on the additional duties on the main floor outside the tag office. Brown works in the Human Resources Department.

Laura McCallister, who works in the Habersham County Planning and Development Office, across from the former elections and registration office downstairs, will also be prepared to assist residents with registering to vote.

“We want to ensure that people receive the help they need, whether at our new office and voting center in Cornelia or when they’re renewing their car tag or transacting other business with county government in Clarkesville,” Laurel Ellison said.

Walk-in voter registration is not as frequent now that people can register or update their registration online or when they get or renew their driver’s licenses.

“These are not new positions but rather additional duties for existing employees,” emphasized Ann Cain Director of Habersham County Human Resources.

“As our elections supervisor mentioned earlier, it’s all about serving the residents of Habersham County in the most convenient ways possible and ensuring they have a positive experience,” Cain said.

Cain pointed out that as a society, we like convenience, so making voter registration available in two locations is a step toward improved access for our residents who prefer human interaction when registering.
