Hall County is once again recognized as a great place to grow older. AARP has named the county one of 12 in Georgia to receive the Age-Friendly Community designation.

The designation is a way of recognizing the efforts that communities make to make life more accommodating for senior citizens. The AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities was created in 2012 in order to promote and encourage improvements that benefit residents of all life stages. The organization selected Hall County after receiving a submission from the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission.

“It is an honor to receive this designation, and we thank the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission for its role in ensuring Hall County remains a community that values a high quality of life for its seniors and the importance of meeting their local needs,” Higgins said.

According to the United States Census Bureau, 16% of Hall County’s population is 65 years or older. AARP’s age-friendly program assists selected communities by tapping into national and global research and using that information to educate, encourage, promote, and recognize improvements that benefit residents of all life stages. The Georgia Mountains Regional Commission also played a role in getting Hall County the designation by submitting a recommendation to AARP.
