Changes are coming at the Habersham County Landfill this month. On February 29, 2024, the Habersham County Landfill will stop accepting construction and demolition materials.
Habersham County Solid Waste Director Johnnie Vickers said the landfill’s construction and demolition cell is nearing capacity. A study has shown that keeping construction waste in the municipal solid waste cell could cut the life of the landfill by a dozen years or more.
There are alternative facilities in Habersham, Hall, and Franklin counties that accept construction and demolition debris, the closest being a few miles from the landfill near Mt. Airy.
