Broadus Quarles, age 85, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2015.
Mr. Quarles was born on February 14, 1930 in Edgefield, SC., to the late Thomas Wallace and Cornelia Corley Quarles. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Mr. Quarles had a specialist degree in education from George Peabody College. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for 62 years where he served as a deacon, and Sunday school teacher. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired school administrator having served Woodville Elementary, Hazel Grove Elementary, and Cornelia Elementary; he also retired as Curriculum Director for Habersham County School System. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved people, loved gardening and his flowers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Doris Bates Quarles, of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Jayne Quarles Huff and Al Peters, of Cornelia; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Gloria Quarles, of Cornelia; Wayne and Connie Quarles of Demorest; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Elizabeth Quarles,of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Matthew Quarles, Jesse Huff, Megan Quarles Williams, Beth Quarles Chitwood, Ben Quarles, Andrew Huff, and Sarah Huff; great-grandchildren, Justin Williams, Evan Quarles, Kalyn Quarles, Owen Huff, Alyssa Chitwood, and Annabelle Chitwood.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 4:30 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2015 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Dr. Craig Ward and Rev. Furman Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Stowe officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the day of the service.
