James Louis Dodd

James Louis Dodd, age 93, of Mount Airy, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at his home.

Mr. Dodd was born on January 6, 1930, in Stephens County, Georgia, to the late James Garnett and Violet Thomas Dodd. He loved the Lord and was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon, Deacon Emeritus, Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Cemetery Committee. He was a sawmiller for 20 years and retired from LP Service with 35 years of service. Mr. Dodd was a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and never meeting a stranger. He enjoyed gardening, watching ballgames, and NASCAR.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorene Benfield Dodd, and brother, Phil Dodd.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joyce Fricks Shirley Dodd, of Mount Airy; children, Wanda (Ronnie) Hardman, of Toccoa; Terry (Dianne) Dodd, of Commerce; Teresa (Jack) Harper, of Clarkesville; Derron Dodd (Amy Falls), of Mount Airy; step-daughter, Susan (Jonathan) Long, of Auburn, whom he raised from two and half years old after her father passed away; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna (Sam) Dillard, of Westminster, SC; and Mary McNulty, of Gainesville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Pruitt Hospice Staff for their excellent care during the course of his illness.

A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Rev. Trent Smith and Rev. Randy Morris officiating and military honors provided by the United States Army. An inurnment will be held at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Habersham County Wall of Honor, P.O. Box 298, Demorest, Georgia 30535, or to the Hazel Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 243 Hazel Creek Church Road, Mt. Airy, Georgia 30563.
