Douglas C. “Doug” Gragg, age 78, of the New Liberty Community Clarkesville, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 08, 2023.
Born in Clarkesville, Georgia, on February 04, 1945, he was a son of the late Chester Edmond & Rhoda Susan Owensby Gragg. Doug was a graduate of North Habersham High School, Class of 1963. He enrolled at Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia, and, at the time, was employed with Reeves Hardware in Clarkesville. In 1965, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he faithfully served his country in the Vietnam War. He was assigned as Company Clerk.
Following his military service, Doug came back home to Clarkesville and joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars as Company Quartermaster. He owned and operated several successful small businesses throughout his lifetime, including a cabinet-making business he co-owned with a friend called Porter & Gragg Cabinet Shop. After retirement, Doug enjoyed reading his Bible, playing golf, gardening, working in his yard, and grilling. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially loved being around his nieces & nephews. Doug was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers & sister-in-law, Herman & Louise Gragg; Calvin Gragg; sister, Carolyn “Dottie” Cook; brother-in-law, Terrell Gragg; nieces, Lynn Deyton, Tonya Brown, & Sheila Gragg; nephew, Ken Gragg; great-nephew, Matthew Gragg; & great-great-niece, Destiny Lord.
Survivors include his sisters & brothers-in-law, Cora Lee Gragg of Lakemont, GA; Kathleen & Dale Lovell of Clarkesville, GA; Geraldine & Earl Smith of Demorest, GA; Joy & Doug Poole of Baldwin, GA; brothers & sisters-in-law, Rev. Thomas & Stella Gragg, James & Hilda Gragg all of Clarkesville, GA; Lonnie Gragg of Suffolk, VA; David Gragg of Gainesville, GA; Raymond & Beverly Gragg of DeRidder, LA; sister-in-law, Kathy Gragg of Cornelia, GA; brother-in-law, Bobby Cook of Alto, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, & friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with Rev. Thomas Gragg & Mr. Shafe Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in the V.F.W. Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Scott Ledbetter officiating at the graveside. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the service hour on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
