Clarkesville firefighters responded to a hay trailer fire Saturday morning at a new residential construction site on Sutton Mill Road near North Georgia Technical College.

The call went out at about 11:45 a.m. The trailer was designed to blow hay across a large area. According to firefighters on the scene, a bail of hay was too close to the muffler and caught fire.

Fortunately, the quick response of fire personnel prevented the fire from spreading to the new structure that was just feet away from the hay trailer. The fire was contained to just the trailer and a small area of the front yard.

Once on the scene, it only took minutes for crews to put the fire out. Fire department personnel remained on scene for about 30 minutes to ensure that hotspots did not reignite the fire.

There were no injuries from the fire. Fire damage was contained to the trailer and about seven bails of hay.
