A speeding truck and a drug sniffing dog led to an alleged drug trafficker’s arrest Monday night in White County.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 30, a White County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a pickup truck for speeding on the Helen Highway just north of the Appalachian Parkway. During the traffic stop, the deputy reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A White County K9 unit was requested, and K9 Jelly alerted on the vehicle.

“After a search of the vehicle, three pounds of Marijuana and over six ounces of mushrooms were located,” says White County Sheriff Rick Kelley.

Deputies arrested 53-year-old Richard Lyle Dickens of Alto, who was a passenger in the vehicle. They charged him with trafficking Schedule 1 drugs and possession with
intent to distribute marijuana.

As of last check, Dickens remained in the White County Detention Center. No bond has been set.
