Authorities have charged a 19-year-old Hartwell man with attempted murder and attempted feticide in connection with a Halloween party shooting that sent three people to the hospital.
Hart County deputies arrested Tyler Avant Carter during a traffic stop on Highway 172 near Bio Church Road. Georgia State Patrol troopers and GBI agents assisted with the arrest around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 south of Hartwell.
“We had a suspect and a suspect vehicle and already had warrants on Mr. Carter at the time of the traffic stop,” says Hart County Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Carroll.
Carter is accused of shooting a male and two females during a gathering at a home on Nancy Hart School Road early Sunday, Oct. 22.
Two of the victims were taken to Anmed Hospital in Anderson, South Carolina, and have since been released. A pregnant woman who was shot was transported by helicopter to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital. She remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Authorities have not publicly identified the victims. Carroll says Carter knew at least one of them. As for the pregnant woman, he says there’s nothing at this point in the investigation that indicates Carter was targeting her.
In addition to the attempted murder and attempted feticide charges, Carter faces six other felonies, including aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated assault, and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Capt. Carroll says the investigation is ongoing. He asks anyone with information to please contact the Hart County Sheriff’s Office at 706-376-3114.
Carter is being housed at a jail outside of Hart County. He was due to return Friday for a bond hearing.
