The Piedmont men’s golf team ended the day where it started, coming in seventh as the Tartan Invitational concluded on Tuesday afternoon at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
After opening with an under par round but falling back with a second round 80, Josh Hebrink delivered a rock solid 2-over 74 in difficult conditions to collect another top-10 finish, with a T-9 performance, just five strokes off the individual lead.
Hebrink carded a team-high three birdies in the final round, against five bogeys.
As a team, the Lions matched their round two team total with a 308 after firing a 306 in the opening round. The team finished at 58-over for the event, just one stroke behind sixth-place Oglethorpe and three behind CCS foe Huntingdon.
Hebrink was supported by a bounce back round from sophomore Adam Rogers, who delivered a pair of birdies and nothing worse than bogey on his way to a 5-over 77 to finish T-40 in the event, tied with teammate Tom Yao, who fired a 77 as well.
Senior Eric Penland continued to provide a steady presence from the No. 5 spot in the lineup, making nothing worse than bogey on the day and for the entire tournament. He fired an 8-over 80 for Piedmont’s final counting score of the day.
Cam Lucas made two birdies and delivered a non-counting 83 in the final round.
Emory took home the team title at 24-over for the event while the Eagles’ Tony Li took the individual crown thanks to a 1-under 71 in the final round.
Up next, the Lions will be right back in action, competing in another top-tier event as the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational is set to begin next Sunday, Oct. 15 at The Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Florida.
