The House Study Committee on Fishing Access to Freshwater Resources meets at 9 a.m. today, October 12, at Habersham EMC in Clarkesville.

Created by House Resolution 519, this study committee will examine the public’s right to fish in Georgia’s freshwater resources and examine any inconsistencies or conflicts in the law between the public’s right to fish and private property rights.

District 10 State Representative Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia) is hosting the hearing.

“I know how important the Soquee River is to its north Georgia community. I welcome the participation of river users, property owners, and all those with an interest in protecting our freshwater resources for future generations,” says Committee Chair and House Majority Caucus Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross),

Rep. Anderson says he’s proud to host the study committee in Habersham County and District 10.

“The beauty of our North Georgia mountains and streams sets the perfect backdrop for the citizens of Northeast Georgia to participate and have input in the legislative process.”

Other study committee meetings are planned for October 18 in Fannin County and October 25 in Bulloch County.
