4 wrecks minutes apart stall traffic on I-985 but no serious injuries

Four wrecks, mere minutes and miles apart tied up traffic on I-985 southbound near Gainesville on Friday, but there were no serious injuries.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, on August 25 at 11:04 a.m., troopers responded to two separate crashes on I-985 SB south of SR 347 (Friendship Rd.).

The roadway was quickly cleared, and there were no injuries resulting from these crashes

At 11:28 a.m., a crash occurred on I-985 SB just north of the previous crash locations while troopers were still investigating the previous wrecks.

According to the state patrol, a Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on I-985 in the left lane. A Hyundai Palisade was traveling south directly in front of the Elantra. The Palisade was slowing due to heavy congestion in the roadway. The Elantra rear-ended the Palisade, causing the Palisade to overturn. The wreck blocked both southbound lanes.

The driver of the Elantra and two occupants in the Palisade reported minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital.

Directly following this crash, troopers say a GMC Acadia that was following too closely rear-ended a Jeep Gladiator. No one was injured.

I-985 southbound lanes were closed for approximately one hour due to the overturned vehicle blocking the roadway.
