They say lightning never strikes twice, but tell that to the man who got hit by it yesterday in Habersham County.

It happened on the south end of the county as severe weather rolled through on August 24.

“Habersham County E-911 received a call at 4:35 p.m. Thursday of an individual who reportedly had been struck by lightning, possibly twice,” says Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore.

Emergency personnel quickly responded to the incident, which occurred on Homer Stephens Road at Sandpoint Drive off Pea Ridge Road outside Cornelia. Baldwin firefighters and Habersham County Emergency Services personnel were among the first on the scene.

“When units arrived, the man was conscious and alert,” says Moore.

An ambulance transported him to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville. Officials did not release the man’s name.
