The federal government is reimbursing Habersham EMC for some of the expenses the local cooperative incurred during Winter Storm Octavia.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued a check to HEMC on August 7. The $285,000 payment is a partial reimbursement and was the first check issued for the February storm.

A press release issued by the company states, “HEMC will receive the remaining $90,000 reimbursement payment in the future.”

Crews from Habersham EMC and electric cooperatives across the region worked long hours in extremely cold temperatures to restore power after Winter Storm Octavia hit Northeast Georgia in February 2015.
