A big crowd turned out for Clarkesville’s signature summer event Saturday. Around 2,500 people filed into Pitts Park for the city’s annual Red, White, and Tunes. For some, it was their second stop of the evening after enjoying the grand opening celebration at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Demorest.
Clarkesville Main Street Director Colby Moore organized the gathering at Pitts Park and was pleased with the “great turnout.”
“I think there’s more people here this year than there was last year. The food vendors have all been very busy. We dodged another rain shower early, making it two years in a row. It’s been a great night,” he told Now Habersham.
A sense of community
People spread out across the park in their lawn chairs and on blankets, listening to country music performed by the Steve Bryson Band. There were kids’ activities and adult beverages, and plenty of food and community spirit to go around.
“I thought it was really great. I like seeing the community come together – like seeing the families here. Kids down at the playground. The band did a great job. They were right there for three hours. They were real troopers all the way to the end,” said Tony Spencer of Cornelia.
Despite the brief popup shower that cooled things down from the afternoon’s sweltering heat, the highly-anticipated fireworks show went off as planned.
“They were really pretty,” said Josie Butler, who gives her age as “seven and three quarters” years old. “I liked the one that was kind of like a waterfall. I liked that one best, and the finale was pretty too.”
Josie and her mother traveled from Kennesaw to attend Red, White, and Tunes with her grandmother, who lives locally. While they enjoyed the fireworks from inside the park, others watched from the downtown square and Clarkesville Elementary School.
