Baldwin’s top elected officials use social media to spark civic engagement

Baldwin's acting mayor Alice Venter, seated, and council member Stephanie Almagno talked about what's happening in the city of Baldwin during the inaugural "Coffee with the Mayor" livestream on Saturday, July 1, 2023. (livestream image)

Last week, she used the city’s livestream to admonish residents for not participating in their government. This week, Baldwin’s acting mayor, Alice Venter, is trying to do something about it.

Venter kicked off “Coffee with the Mayor” live on social media on July first. She plans to hold these events regularly to try and spark civic engagement.

“I’m hoping to do it most Saturdays at 9 a.m.,” she tells Now Habersham.

Baldwin Mayor Pro Tem Stephanie Almagno joined Venter for the inaugural hour-long livestream on Saturday.

“Our wish is to make ourselves available for questions, suggestions, and concerns. But also to share all of the things the city does for her people. Some Saturdays, we will take field trips to our facilities and departments to introduce the wonderful people who serve the citizens and show people how our systems and departments operate.”

Recordings may be viewed on the City of Baldwin Facebook page and the new City of Baldwin YouTube channel.
