Baldwin to host free cookout, fireworks this evening

It’s happening, rain or shine. That’s the word from Baldwin officials on tonight’s community “Pit”nic.

The city is getting a jump start on the Fourth of July holiday with a free cookout and fireworks show this evening, Saturday, July 1. The event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market and downtown city park at 110 Airport Road (next to the Stew-N-Que Restaurant).

“We’re so excited for you to join us for this free cookout so we can show our residents how much we appreciate them,” a notice about the event states.

Hamburgers, hotdogs, and watermelon are on the menu, and there will be lawn games set up for guests to enjoy.

Baldwin will cap off the evening with a 25-minute fireworks show.

Everything at the “Pit”nic is being provided through sponsorships from local business partners, the city says.

To ensure safety during the event, Airport Road from Willingham Avenue to King Street will be closed from 4:30 p.m. until approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The fireworks show will be managed by the City of Baldwin Fire Department and will be launched from the end of Airport Road near Chatham Street.
