The Cornelia City Commission approved a resolution abandoning an unopened portion of Straight Street. The street is across from Faye Street Apartments off of Level Grove Road near downtown, adjacent to the Fieldale Processing Plant.

Commissioners approved the resolution Tuesday during their regular monthly meeting. It states Straight Street “has ceased to be used by the public to the extent that no substantial purpose is served by it.” The resolution concludes that abandoning the unopened portion  of Straight Street would be “for the benefit and in the best interest of the public.”

Commissioners unanimously approved the abandonment, reverting four tracts of land to the original owners, Donald C. Howard and Jeffery and Vicki Murray.

The portion of the street that will remain open serves apartments owned by the Northeast Georgia Housing Authority.
