If you drive on White County’s Hulsey Road/Appalachian Parkway, you may want to use an alternate route Tuesday.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will close one lane in each direction from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 6 to prepare for the second phase of a bridge construction project over Tesnatee Creek. The new bridge is replacing a culvert that failed due to unstable soil.

After crews install a guardrail, barrier wall, and paving, traffic will shift onto the newly completed section of the bridge. This temporary traffic shift will be in place for several weeks, according to Georgia DOT.

Transportation officials say signs and striping will be used to alert drivers to the change in traffic patterns. This operation will impact both northbound and southbound traffic on Hulsey Road. Delays are anticipated.

Drivers are urged to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.
